The Glen Rock Volunteer
Ambulance Corps held its annual Installation
Dinner at the Brownstone on Saturday, January 5,
2008. This dinner is held every January to
swear in the organization’s new Executive Board,
and to honor those members who are eligible for
service awards. This year, the guest of honor
at the event was Noreen Egan, who celebrated her
25th anniversary with the Ambulance
Corps.

Noreen joined the ambulance corps in 1982 and
has held the office of Chief, Lieutenant and
Delegate. Currently, she is also the Assistant
OEM Officer for the Borough.

She
was presented with an inscribed gold watch by
the Corps and a gold charm by the Borough
Council. In addition, she received a scrapbook
containing letters of recognization from
numerous dignitaries such as First Lady Laura
Bush and Governor Jon Corzine. Mayor John Van
Keuren read a Proclamation naming December 2008
“Noreen Egan Month.” Noreen’s husband Tom was
happy to note that he was now married to Miss
December 2008 according to the Borough Calendar!

Service awards were also presented to David
Behar for 30 years, Ron Jemal, 15 years;
Christine Harmeyer and Griff Jones, Sr., 10
years and therefore Life Membership; Lorraine
Stern, Mike Lewitt and Tom Ludlum, 5 years; and
Marguerite Koester, Michael Teegan, Michael
Bendett and Robert Bendett, 1 year.

The
new Executive Board for 2008 is Mary Surrago,

Robert Bendett, 2nd V.P.; Pat
Gallagher, Recording Secretary; Mike Eckert,

Secretary and John DeLaat, Chief.

Special recognition was given to the Gulmy
Family and Phil Gulmy, Jr. who passed away
earlier this year. Donations in Phil’s memory
have been used towards the purchase of a
hydraulic Stryker Stretcher. A commerorative
nameplate will be placed in the ambulance in his
memory. Laura, Butch and Elizabeth Gulmy were
invited to the dinner as Friends of the Corps to
recognize the longstanding support given to the
organization by the Gulmy Corporation during the
initial building construction in 1951 and two
subsequent additions in 1984 and 2007.

This always festive occasion was enhanced this
year by the return of several retired Life
Members, and a large contingent of Noreen’s
family and friends to witness and enjoy this
recognition of a wonderful twenty-five years of
service to our town.
