Members of the Glen Rock Ambulance Corps
attended a 2-day Incident Command course at
their building on March 25 an
d 26th.
This course is required by the State of NJ to
prepare emergency workers in the event of a mass
casualty such as a train derailment, school
evacuation or any incident involving multiple
victims.
The course provided the members with an
understanding of the County, State and Federal
resources available in case of a disaster, plus
the role of each of the emergency services and
how the three departments (Police, Fire and
Ambulance) work together to manage the scene.
They learned about s
cene safety, triage, setting
up and maintaining staging areas, incorporating
mutual aid squads at the scene, and the
logistics of transporting of victims to area
hospitals. This course will prove to be a
valuable resource to any members responding to
any scene where there are multiple victims,
regardless of its origin.
