4/18/2026 - Mia Earns Prestigious EMSCNJ Scholarship Award
Picture
The Glen Rock Volunteer Ambulance Corps (GRVAC) is proud to recognize one of its own, Mia Vergel de Dios, for being named a recipient of the EMS Council of New Jersey’s Cadet Scholarship Award. Members of the organization extend their congratulations to Mia, on this well-deserved honor. We also want to thank her parents, Misuzu and John Vergel de Dios for sharing their daughter’s time with our squad.

This scholarship is awarded to high school seniors who demonstrate strong achievement and potential, supporting Cadet and Youth Members of First Aid and Rescue Squads of New Jersey as they pursue higher education at accredited colleges or universities. Recipients are selected on merit by an independent committee of educators not affiliated with the EMS Council of New Jersey. Mia will be formally recognized at the EMSCNJ Mid-Year Convention on May 3, 2026, at the Marriott in Park Ridge.
Mia plans to attend Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania, where she will major in Biology on a pre-med track. In addition to her academic accomplishments, she has been a standout athlete at Glen Rock High School, surpassing 1,000 career points in basketball. She will continue her athletic career as a member of Swarthmore College’s Garnet team.

Mia has made a lasting impact on both GRVAC and the Glen Rock community. She joined the corps as a Youth Member at 16 and became a Senior EMT at 18. Through her service, she developed critical skills in patient care, communication, and emergency response—experiences that have helped shape her future in medicine. The GRVAC is confident that Mia will follow in the footsteps of its many members who have gone on to achieve success in the medical field.

GRVAC congratulates you and wishes nothing less than greatness in all your endeavors.
4/16/2026  Ed Esposito Has Announced His Retirement As An Active Member Of The Glen Rock Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
Picture
At the March 16, 2026, Business Meeting, the Glen Rock Volunteer Ambulance Corps accepted Edward Esposito’s resignation with deep regret, honoring him with a long and well-deserved standing ovation. In his farewell remarks, Ed shared that this decision, a tough one, had been on his mind for months. While he is stepping back from active duty, he will remain involved in several critical committees, including ambulance remounting and information technology. And importantly - very importantly - Ed said the door remains open for his return to active service.

It is difficult to fully capture the scope of Ed’s contributions to EMS and GRVAC. We begin simply by thanking him for making EMS better for all of us at the GRVAC. Ed’s remarkable 55-year career began in 1970 with the Ridgefield First Aid and Ambulance Corps. After moving to Glen Rock in 1978, he quickly became a dedicated member of GRVAC.
Over the past 47 years at the GRVAC, he has served in numerous leadership roles, including four years as President, sixteen years as Captain/Chief, Vice Chairperson of the East Bergen Ambulance Association, Mobilization Director for the Northern Area of the NJSFAC, multiple groundbreakings for new structures, and many new ambulance wet-downs.

As colleagues, we have had the privilege of witnessing Ed’s many accomplishments. His impact spans vehicle and equipment acquisitions, building expansions, communications and technology management, oversight of the Length of Service Awards Program and so much more. He has written protocols, procedures, and by-laws that continue to guide the organization today. His contributions at business meetings have been invaluable - because of his deep knowledge of the very rules and regulations he authored. Through his expertise and steady leadership, Ed has guided the GRVAC through decades of growth and change in equipment, communications, training, and administration.
On behalf of the entire Borough of Glen Rock, Ed—thank you.

GRVAC Thanks Mark Ryan For His Service To The GRVAC
On Tuesday, February 24, 2025, some members of the Glen Rock Volunteer Ambulance Corps gathered at the Glen Rock Inn to express their heartfelt thanks and best wishes to their colleague of four years, Mark Ryan.

During his time with GRVAC, Mark has been a cornerstone of the organization. He proudly served as Lieutenant, Delegate to the EMS Council of New Jersey, and Recruitment Officer, consistently demonstrating leadership, dedication, and a strong commitment to the community.

As Mark and his wife prepare to move to New York to be closer to family, the entire Corps extends its sincere gratitude for his service and wishes the Ryans every success and happiness in this next chapter.
GRVAC Member Mia Vergel de Dios Makes History -
The Glen Rock Volunteer Ambulance Corps proudly congratulates Mia Vergel de Dios on an incredible achievement. Mia is a dedicated member of GRVAC and a standout player on the Glen Rock High School Girls Varsity Basketball Team. On Monday evening, February 2, 2026, Mia made history by becoming the first female basketball player at Glen Rock High School to score 1,000 career points. The game was paused to honor this milestone in front of hometown fans, with members of GRVAC proudly in attendance to witness the moment. The GRVAC wishes Mia and her teammates the best of luck with the remainder of the season. We will be there to cheer you on.
