Sometimes kids are patients, too, and they receive the same level of assessment and care provided to an adult. Effectively managing pediatric patients, including the rarely encountered critically ill pediatric patients, requires good preparation, ongoing training and comprehensive oversight by EMS services.
There are some differences and special considerations, but while our EMTs are trained in all types of pediatric types, the most common reason for EMS activation for children and adolescents include respiratory distress, seizures, traumatic injury and behavioral or psychiatric complaints. Rest assured, we have appropriately sized blood pressure cuffs, splints, oxygen masks, etc. and even car seats to transport for infants and toddlers.
EMS for Children Day raises awareness about improving specialized care for children in pre-hospital and acute care settings. We strive to bring the best pediatric care to our young Glen Rock patients.
