2025 EMS Council of NJ Scholarships
There are 3 scholarships that are available through the EMSCNJ:
1. The EMSCNJ Cadet Scholarship (These are Youth Members)
2. The Fred Steinkopf
3. The Gail Lawrence
To be eligible to receive the Cadet Scholarship or the Past President Fred Steinkopf Scholarship, the applicant must be a member in good standing of a squad in good standing with the EMSCNJ. To be eligible to receive the Gail Lawrence Memorial Scholarship, the applicant must be associated (member, family member, friend of a member) with a squad that is in good standing with the EMSCNJ.

To be eligible to receive the Cadet Scholarship or the Past President Fred Steinkopf Scholarship, the applicant must be a member in good standing of a squad in good standing with the EMSCNJ. To be eligible to receive the Gail Lawrence Memorial Scholarship, the applicant must be associated (member, family member, friend of a member) with a squad that is in good standing with the EMSCNJ.
Cadet Scholarship
The EMS Council of New Jersey Cadet Scholarship Program: The purpose of the Program is to provide recognition of achievement and ability, and to assist cadet and junior members of First Aid/Rescue Squads that are members in good standing of The EMS Council of New Jersey in continuing their education in an accredited college or university. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit as determined by a Selection Committee of non-EMS Council of New Jersey related educators whose decisions are final. Financial ability of the applicant shall not be a factor in the selection process.
Applicant must be a high school senior in good academic standing and graduating in June 2025. Applicant must have applied to and be planning to enroll and pursue a course of study in an accredited college or university. Applicant must be a currently active cadet or junior member of a First Aid/Rescue Squad that is a member in good standing of The EMS Council of New Jersey. Based upon their age, applicant may be a senior member of their First Aid/Rescue Squad, as long as they meet the aforementioned graduation date requirement.
Scholarship applications for The EMSCNJ Cadet Scholarship must be postmarked or received by email by 1159 PM on March 15, 2025.
To be in good standing, a squad must have completed, submitted and had their reports accepted, paid their dues and be up to date with their vehicle inspections no later than March 15, 2025. If you have any questions, please contact your District Vice President, Vikki Castellano <[email protected]>
The EMSCNJ Cadet Scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship for High School students in their senior year, who are cadet and/or junior members in good standing of member squads in good standing of the EMSCNJ, and who will be pursuing a course of study that will lead to a degree from a post-secondary school.

Applicant must be a currently active member in good standing of a First Aid/Rescue Squad that is a member in good standing of The EMS Council of New Jersey.
The Past President Fred Steinkopf Scholarship is a $500 scholarship for students who are currently enrolled in a college/university/trade school (freshmen, sophomores or juniors), who are members in good standing of member squads that are in good standing of the EMSCNJ, and who will be continuing their studies in a post-secondary school. This scholarship is provided in his memory by his wife and family.

The Gail Lawrence Memorial Scholarship
This is a $1,000 scholarship for those pursuing advanced degrees in any medical field. This scholarship was established in memory of Gail Lawrence, who was a Mobile Intensive Care Nurse and an Advanced Practice Nurse and an Educator with Rutgers University.
Due Date: March 15, 2025.
