Dear Mr. Markey,
Our hearts go out to all the families who tragically lost loved ones and had their homes and businesses upended by Hurricane Ida. At least 27 New Jersey residents lost their lives. In a time of tragedy, New Jersey stands together to support our own.
We are immensely grateful for the first responders who have been working around-the-clock to keep our communities safe. We will do everything in our power to help families in North Jersey recover. My team and I have been working diligently with our federal partners, and with state and local officials, to assist the relief and recovery efforts.
At the urging of the entire New Jersey Congressional Delegation, President Biden has issued a Major Disaster Declaration in several New Jersey counties, including Bergen and Passaic Counties, and ordered emergency federal assistance to help families and state and local response efforts.
The good news: The President’s action makes federal funding immediately available to affected individuals and businesses in Bergen and Passaic Counties. Assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and businesses recover from the effects of the disaster.
