The weather cleared up on Tuesday evening, May 19, allowing NorthSTAR to land at Wilde Memorial Park. Touchdown occurred at 7:30 pm. As planned, the Glen Rock Fire Department secured the landing zone. Starting at 6:30 pm, the GRVAC opened its doors to residents to chat with members, to view the inside of our ambulances, to learn about CPR and other life saving techniques, and to enjoy some light refreshments. More than 20 members of the ambulance corps were present to share their experiences with residents. The GRVAC's new corps chaplain, Father Tom Blind, also attended. About 200 residents stopped. The two pilots, flight nurse and flight paramedic chatted with members of the GRVAC, GRFD, GRPD and residents and responded to questions. NorthSTAR took off at 8:05 pm.
The event was a success not only because of the training opportunities for our current members, but also because it peaked interest from a few young students in the community, who provided contact information and are considering going to EMT school once they turn 16 years old.
