GRVAC Members Honored at EMS Conference
Two GRVAC Members, who are also veterans of the United States military, were honored at Emergency Medical Service Council of New Jersey’s (EMSCNJ) Educational Symposium and Trade Show last month. The theme of this year’s meeting was “Red, White and Blue – and EMS too!”
Sal Danna and retired life member, Dave Behar, were awarded certificates, stars and pillows in recognition of their service in the United States military and their volunteer service in their home communities as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs). The hand-made pillows were a symbolic gift to help veterans rest better. Each star was laminated for veterans to carry in their wallets and were preserved from old and tattered American flags that have proudly flown over the United States.
Sal has been volunteering with the GRVAC since 2005. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1968 and honorably discharged in 1970. As a Sergeant, Sal oversaw a 10-soldier communication team.
Dave Behar devoted more than 30 years to the GRVAC as an EMT until his retirement from active duty a few years ago. Dave was a Specialist Fourth Class stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington, from 1963 to 1965. Afterwards, he served four years as a Sergeant in the Army Reserves.
